GRIEF AND LOSS
Grief is an intensely complex emotion and may feel and look different for each and every person. What’s more, grief may arrive in any variety of ways, each using a different effect of the grief cycle.
Adults who lose a parent due to long-term illness or old age could have a distinctly different mourning experience to losing a child to disease. Sudden death, the death of a spouse or friend, death of a parent or child, terminal illnesses and death by suicide will each bring a special blend of emotions for all those left behind.
There’s no correct or perfect approach to grieve the loss of a loved one, and there’s absolutely no set deadline for your grief process. The loss of a loved one is irreversible, and the despair you feel for their loss may always detract, waxing and waning with the passing of time.
Hopefully, with time, despair will become manageable and you can start to go back to everyday tasks without being held back by overwhelming feelings of despair. But if symptoms of despair stay intense for lengthy intervals and start to interfere with the daily operation of your life, it could be time to find help.
